My tips for throwing the best festival pre-party!

Festival season has arrived yet again and I couldn’t be more exited!
Music is the heart and soul beyond many things, for some, it’s even a way of life.
Five years ago we started the tradition of going to Stavernsfestivalen with a big group of friends and we don’t plan on stopping this year – this is a steady tradition we love!
The festival takes place the second weekend of July and is just around the corner, which means it’s time to prepare the festival camp! Every year before the festival, we invite our friends to a festival pre-party at our place. There’s nothing better than a fun pre-party with (hopefully!) great weather, a backyard barbecue, lot’s of ice cold beer and delicious drinks, fun drinking games, great people and a positive vibe – just as it should be! πŸ˜€

Here are my best tips for hosting the best festival pre-party;

Make sure to always have cold drinks at hand
This is very important, because who want’s to drink warm beer or wine? I know I don’t! The number of people attending our festival pre-party varies from year to year, but we are rarely under ten people (and we have been over 20 in the past!), so it’s clear that a regular fridge will be to small to cool off everyone drinks. We therefore invested in a huge tub referred to as the “festival tub”, we fill it with ice and it’s perfect for cooling off the alcohol. We use this tub for many occasions, whether it’s the festival pre-party, a summer party of birthdays.. This is definitely the smartest purchases ever made!

Entertainment
There are many ideas for entertainment, but we always enjoy playing a drinking game such as Flipcup of Beer-pong, or the popular Scandinavian game called Kubb (read more about it here). Flipcup is a fun drinking game that I was introduced to in college and it’s always fun to see how committed and competitive people are after a few drinks, hehe.. The goal is to drink up and get the cup turned upside down. If you don’t know what Flipcup is, you can read more about it here.

Food & Drinks
Going without food and drinks is not ideal, especially at a festival pre-party since people often consume large amounts of alcohol. It’s important to make sure people eat a proper meal + drink cold water in addition to the alcohol. A general rule of thumb would be 1 cup of alcohol/1 cup of water to stay hydrated, this is especially important if it’s hot outside! When it comes to food we always make it easy; we fire up the grill and people bring what ever they prefer to eat. Another good suggestion would be to set up a taco/nachos buffet. This is food that most people like and it always hits a home run, especially when drinking alcohol.. Accompanied by a big bowl of guacamole and ice cold corona, I’m definitely on board! πŸ˜€

Music & A Great Playlist
Music is a necessity at a festival pre-party and so is a good playlist. Feel free to use Spotify to create your own festival pre-party play list, and you can also ask your guests in advance if there have any music requests to add to the list. The advantage of creating a set playlist is that you’ll avoid people constantly searching for music and switching songs – my experience is that many people find this very annoying in the long run.. They key is to provide a long playlist with different music so people don’t get tired of the same music on repeat all the time. Include some of the artists playing at the festival and you will definitely get the party started!

Accommodation for Guests
We always have friends staying with us and we love it!
Staying at an festival camp in a sweaty tent (it’s July after all), standing in line to shower/use the bathroom and without access to a fridge with cold drinks is not appealing to me at all (it’s possible I’m to old for this). Since I’m lucky enough to call Stavern my hometown, we always invite friend to stay at our place during the festival. Three days at a festival can be exhausting, I therefore think it’s important to offer my them a comfortable place to stay. Always make sure to offer people a comfortable place to sleep, comforter + pillows in clean sheets, towels and shower-gel/shampoo/conditioner available to all. We always make sure our apartment is clean and tidy, make sure there is fresh air in all rooms and give people the freedom to do whatever they want – I always want our guests to feel like they are home!

Miscellaneous Items
Make sure you have enough toilet paper at hand. When people are drinking, people use the bathroom a lot and there is nothing worse than running out of toilet paper. In addition, I always have hand sanitizer, feminine hygiene products, and paracetamol/ibuprofen for headaches available.

A Good Breakfast
A weekend with drinking takes it’s toll on most of us (let’s face it, we’re not 20 anymore), a good breakfast is therefore a must! We always buy breakfast for the entire festival weekend and split the bill afterwards. At the breakfast table you’ll find fresh bread/baguettes, eggs, bacon, fruit and vegetables, various toppings, and drinks such as juice, soda, and water. When breakfast is consumed (and often even before breakfast!), we kick of the pre-party with the first beer. Cheers!

Do you have any good tips to share? If you are one of the regular festival goers – use sunscreen, drink lots of beer, jam to the music and dance the days away! πŸŽΆπŸ’ƒπŸ»πŸ’₯β˜€οΈπŸ»πŸΎπŸ˜€
