If you’ve been here a while, you will know that I love goal setting and Bucketlists! I set goals all the time – daily, weekly, monthly and annually. To some it might feel exhausting, but to me it’s a helpful tool. Personal goals helps me to map out my future; when I know what I want to accomplish, it’s easier to make a plan of action for reaching my goals. I’m currently working on my 2021 Bucketlist which I’ll be posting later, but for now I’ve done some much needed reflection on the personal goals I’ve set for myself for 2021! 🙂
My Personal Goals for 2021
Do well in my job
I started a new job in December and after working for roughly a month, I think it’s safe to say this is the job I’ve been waiting for! It’s interesting, challenging and rewarding, all which are things I value in a job. All the co-workers I’ve met so far are people full of knowledge, so I learn something new everyday. I have a great interest in the areas of security, crime-prevention and community safety, so I’m glad I finally found a job related to both my degree and area of interest. I’m exited to keep challenging myself, learn new things, and grow as a person!
I started volunteering for a non-profit organization a couple of years ago and it’s without a doubt one of the most rewarding things I have done (both for myself and others!). It’s especially rewarding to be able to help in 2020 as many people are struggling due to the effects of covid-19. To me, volunteer work is meaningful, rewarding and provides a sense of purpose in life – it’s caring about something bigger than just myself. I have also increased my confidence, met lot’s of new people, and gained some much needed perspective on life. It’s definitely something I’ll continue with!
Learn a new skill/take on a new hobby;
I have been thinking about taking on a new hobby for a long time, but haven’t quite figured out what yet. A few things I have been thinking about is starting a book club (I would love to read more and discuss/recommend books to others!), do some painting, complete fun DIY projects (maybe re-finish older pieces of furniture), really take my cooking skills to the next level, or attempting to learn a new language.
Improve my overall mental and physical well-being
This one is very important to me, especially in 2020 in light of the pandemic. Physical activity has always been important to me and something I enjoy very much, mainly because of the mental effect it has on my health and overall well-being. Getting into shape is just a big bonus! I pray that my gym doesn’t close down again(!) and I hope to be able to continue with yoga and spin class. In order to switch it up,my goal is to try some new workout classes as well. I also want to dig deeper into the world of meditation and mindfulness, as this does wonder works for my mental health. And the most exiting thing (if it doesn’t get cancelled!); I want to get into shape for Navy Race OCR! It’s a military inspired obstacle race and I hope to be an all-girls team. I’m so exited!
Manage my time better
This is something I feel I’ve gotten so much better at already! I have always been the person who want to participate in everything, see everyone, and say yes yes yes all the time. Over time, it gets really exhausting. After slowing down in 2020, I have gotten the feel of having a well-balanced lifestyle. I have become very selective on how I spend my time and who I choose to spend my time on, which has served me well. It’s definitely something I’ll continue with in 2021!
Continue improving our finances
2020 has been a good year financially for us, which is something I’m extremely grateful for. I know many people are not so fortunate. One thing that became clear for us during 2020 is all that we spend lots of money on traveling. It’s not unusual for us to take a 2 week vacation + lot’s of smaller trips throughout the year (we sure do love our spa-dining-shopping long weekend trips). With all the travel restrictions in place, we decided to put our money towards paying off debt instead and it’s been serving us well!
2021 – I’m ready for you! Do you have any goals set for yourself this year? 🙂
